List of T-80U variants

T-80U (preproduction)
Some early T-80U were produced with Kontakt-1 ERA tiles instead of the Kontakt-5 as planned for the T-80U. These were produced around 1985.
T-80U (early)
First series production model. Introduced around 1986. Fitted with Kontakt-5 ERA and GTD-1000F engine.
T-80U obr 1990
T-80U fitted with the higher pressure 2A46M-4 main gun and ability to launch the improved 9K119M Invar barrel launched anti-tank guided missile.
T-80U obr 1992
Late production model with more powerful GTD-1250 multifuel turbine engine.
T-80UK
Command tank based on the T-80U. Introduced in the early 1990's. Fitted with Shtora-1 countermeasure system, Agava-2 thermal sight, TNA-4 navigation system, long range R-163U and R-163K radio sets, APU and fuse setting system for HE shells.
T-80UM
Upgraded model introduced in 1992. Features Agava-2 thermal sight, neutron absorbent liner and improved radio set.

Armament


125mm 2A46M-1 and M-4

Early models of the T-80U are armed with the 2A46M-1 smoothbore gun. Since 1990 the 2A46M-4 is fitted, which is more accurate and can fire higher pressure ammunition.

7.62mm PKT machine gun

A 7.62mm PKT machine gun is fitted as coaxial armament.

12.7mm NSVT heavy machine gun

A 12.7mm NSVT heavy machine gun is mounted at the commander's hatch.
