Description

Introduction

The AMX-PRAT is a Cold War era tank destroyer of Dutch origin. These vehicles were converted in the Netherlands from existing AMX-VCI armored personnel carriers. In support of Dutch mechanized infantry the AMX-PRAT was used alongside the AMX-13 light tank. In Dutch service it was later replaced by the more capable YPR-765 PRAT. The AMX-PRAT is not to be confused with the AMX-PRA. The latter is a 105mm self-propelled howitzer, also based on the AMX chassis.

Layout

The AMX-PRAT is a conversion of a number of French built AMX-VCI armored personnel carriers to a tank destroyer by fitting a pedestal mounted TOW launcher. The rear crew compartment that previously seated the infantry section was refitted with ammunition racks.
