System composition

Javelin missile

The Javelin missile is a further development of the earlier Blowpipe and retains the command to line of sight guidance method, but is made simpler to operate. The rocket motor is improved resulting in longer range and altitude. A larger warhead increases lethality.

Gripstock launcher

Man portable launcher allowing the Javelin to be launched from the shoulder. The launcher includes an optical sight unit, missile tracking TV camera, fire control computer and radio command guidance antenna. The launcher is reusable by fitting a new missile and fresh battery.

Lightweight Multiple Launcher (LML)

Tripod mounted launch unit for Javelin with seat for the operator. Three Javelin missiles can be fired one at a time in more rapid succession than the gripstock launcher. The LML is less portable than the gripstock launcher but is better suited to defend a position for a longer duration. The LML can also be vehicle mounted to increase mobility.
